Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying defeated former world No. 1 Wang Xin of China (below), for the second time this year to reach the quarter-finals of the US$200,000 Yonex Open Japan 2011, the eighth tournament in the 2011 OSIM BWF World Superseries calendar.

The 17-year-oldTzu Ying, who captured her first international title when she won the Yonex OCBC US Open Grand Prix Gold in July, outplayed her more experienced opponent, who was a losing finalist in Tokyo a year ago.

Tzu Ying’s 13-21, 21-16, 20-22 victory comes exactly three months since she knocked out the then world No. 2 in the first round of the Djarum Indonesian Open Superseries Premier.

Now ranked world No. 3 and seeded third in this tournament, Wang Xin told AFP: “I couldn't do anything today. I couldn't hit the shuttle as well as I usually do.”

Tzu Ying will now move on to the quarter-finals where she will meet Yonex Australian Open Grand Prix champion Liu Xin of China. Should she beat Liu Xin, world champion Wang Yihan could be her semi-final opponent while former world No. 1 Wang Shixian is her anticipated final opponent…FULL ARTICLE
