“Badminton king” worthy of the name
Lee Chong Wei has reigned supreme atop the men’s singles world rankings for a long while and he consolidated his rule when he picked up the title at the All England Super Series Premier in the first week of March;this was the third time he has won the title and it did not come easy.

In the final, Lee faced one of China’s top men’s singles players, Chen Long. In the pair’s four meetings since the 2012 Olympics Lee has lost in straight games each time, showing that Chen is the nemesis of this “World Champion.” However, on this occasion, Lee showed the majesty of a king and played a number of classic shots that amazed the audience. Chen actually played very well all round but was just one step behind Lee this time. The final result saw Lee win 21-13,21-18 to take his third All England men’s singles title.

At present Lee is not only at the top of the BWF rankings, he is a massive 27000 points head of second placed Chen Long.

Ahmad/Natsir make it three All England titles in a row
“Indonesian Lightning” AhmadNatsir were also in stunning form at the All England Super Series Premier; remarkably, they beat their opponents in last year’s final, Zhang Nan/Zhao Yun Lei,  by the same score (21-13,21-17,) with the match also lasting the same amount of time (42 minutes,) to claim their third All England title in quite a miraculous way.

Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir
AhmadNatsir of Indonesia have won the mixed doubles title at the last three All England tournaments

Natsir said in an interview after the match: “It was really difficult to win this historic and famous competition three times in succession and I am so proud and happy.”   Ahmad said “ I don’t know what to say, but I’d like to thank our coach, the fans who cheered us on so enthusiastically, the teammates we train with, and our parents and families who always support us. We would like to dedicate this win to Victor Hartono (the CEO of  Djarum the foundation that nurtured them) as a wedding present.”

AhmadNatsir took home a sackful of points after their All England win and are now ranked No. 2 in the world, less than 3000 points behind Zhang Nan/Zhao Yun Lei. If the pair does well at the India Super Series and Singapore Super Series tournaments in April they have a good chance of knocking Zhang/Zhao off top spot!
