RIO TICKET
Korea has been known for their men’s doubles prowess. Aside from World No.1 Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong, who have basically secured their ticket to the Rio Olympics, there are still two medal contenders in Shin Baek Choel/Ko Sung Hyun and Kim Gi Jung/Kim Sa Rang. But only one team can join Lee/Yoo in the Korean squad. With the Malaysia Open win last week, Kim/Kim will now occupy the second doubles spot and Shin/Ko could overtake them anytime this week in Singapore with a narrow 2000 points margin on the BWF’s Race to Rio. Who can get the only other Rio ticket for Korea?

The recent Malaysia Open winners, Indonesia’s Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir have won together three titles here at the Singapore Open Superseries. Natsir, 30, has had three more victories here with Nova Widianto, which makes her a 6-time winner already. Will the historic lucky 7th finally come?
SUPERMAN IN SINGAPORE
It could be an underachievement, but Thai “Superman” Boonsak Ponsana’s only two Superseries titles both came at the Singapore Open. He was crowned in 2007 and 2012 and had another three final showings here in 2009, 2010, 2013.
Ponsana will play Taiwanese qualifier Lin in the first round and potential second round against no.1 Chen Long. Can he make it happen again this year?
