Mixed doubles champions at the 2012 Singapore Open: Chen Wen Hsing / Chen Hung Ling

Chinese Taipei’s Chen Wen Hsing/Chen Hung Ling take their second title of the year

In the final of the mixed doubles at the Singapore Super Series, Chinese Taipei’s Cheng Wen Hsing / Chen Hung Ling beat Japan’s Shintaro Ikeda/Reiko Shiota without much difficultly to take their second Super Series since they began playing together and also their second since the Australian Open earlier this year.

In the mixed doubles, Cheng Wen Hsing played brilliantly in front of the net and, although her serving left something to be desired, the pair still had enough to defeat the Japanese 21:17,21:11 and take the title.

After the match, Chinese Taipei’s head coach said that the pair played very well, keeping their opponents under pressure from the front and back of the court and that they were not in the least bit lucky to win the match.

Cheng / Chen said after the match that they played with speed and quality and that, as the game went on and their opponents began to make a lot of errors, they knew that all they had to do was play with a steady rhythm and the match would be theirs. The pair said they were very pleased to have won this title for the Chinese Taipei team.

In the women’s doubles, Chinese Taipei’s Chen Wen Hsing / Chien Yu Chin were up against the young China par Bao Yi Xin / Zhong Qian Xin;the former were too passive in defense and let the other pair dictate the rhythm, of the game, going down 12:21,17:21 to take the runners-up spot.

In the men’s doubles, Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun / Yoo Yeon Seong went up against Indonesia’s Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan and, despite pulling even at one game apiece, were brushed aside in the final game, having to settle for second place.

In other matches, Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana beat China Wang Zheng Ming 21:19, 21:18 to take the men’s single title. Germany’s Juilane Schenk beat Cheng Shao Chieh 21:11, 26:24, taking the match in straight games after a nail biting second game in the women’s singles final.
