2012 Japan Open WS winner ： Tai Tzu Ying

Tai Tzu Ying wears the crown, becoming the youngest ever Super Series women’s singles champion

Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying came from behind to beat Japanese player Hirose Eriko2：1 and win the 2012 women’s’ singles title, her first individual Super Series title, and also record the best ever performance by a Chinese Taipei player in a Super Series tournament. 

Tai did not set any special targets before the final. To begin with, facing home player Hirose Eriko who was looking to be Japan’s first winner of the Japan Open and had vocal support from the home fans,

Tai started off quite poorly and made a series of errors partly due to court factors, losing the first game without much of a fight 9：21. After changing sides and moving to her preferred half of the court, she began to attack initiatively, moved her opponent around the court, and speeded up the rhythm of play, in the first half of the game opening up a fearsome 12：0 lead, and going on to take the second game 21：9, showing that she would was determined to win the match and take the title. 

The deciding game saw both players fiercely contesting each point, whoever took the lead sure to have a psychological advantage.  Tai acquitted herself brilliantly in these hard fought exchanges, didn’t let the court affect her play, moved her opponent around the four corners of the court to create attacking opportunities and feigned several shots that left her opponent at full stretch but still unable to return, opening up a small lead and finding her rhythm.

At one point Hirose Eriko pulled back Tai’s lead to just two points, 14：16, but Tai remained unflustered and kept her attacking rhythm and then, with a final heroic effort, took five points in a row to end the game, taking the match 9：21, 21：9 and 21：14 and claiming her first individual Super Series title.

In other matches, Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei beat Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana in the men’s singles final to take his second Super Series title this year.

In the men’s doubles, South Korea’s Kim Sa Rang / Kim, Kee Jeong, beat Malaysia’s Koo Kien Keat / Tan Boon Heong, once again displaying the country’s men’s doubles power.

In the women’s doubles, Hong Kong’s  Poon Lok Yan / Tse Ying Suet beat Japan’s Shizuka Matsuo / Mami Naito in two games, 21：17, 22：20.

The mixed doubles title was taken by Malaysia’s  Chan Peng Soon/ Goh Liu Ying, making Malaysia the biggest winner at the Japan Open, with two titles. 

The 2012 Japan Open Super Series tournament saw Tai Tzu Ying take her first ever individual Super Series title and her sights are now set on the Taipei Open which will begin on October 2.
