ROK players all go through on the first day of the Indian Open Super Series 2013
The ROK team showed fearsome power on the first day of the Indian Open Super Series 2013, all its eight players/pairs going through to the next round.
In the women’s singles,
Bae Youn Joo came up against Hong Kong’s Yip Pui Yin, a player who always puts up a fight. In the first round,
Bae had no answer to the attacking play of Yip and went down 13-211. After changing ends,
Bae changed to clear and drop tactics to reduce Yip’s attacking opportunities and successfully changed the rhythm of play; she went on to take the next two game 21-18 to win the match.
In the men’s double’s, both top ROK pairs,
Ko Sung Hyun/
Lee Yong Dae,
Kim Ki Jung/
Kim Sa Rang went through to the last 16 without playing after their opponents withdrew; they also shouldn’t face too much of a threat from their next-round opponents and, unless something unforeseen happens, both pairs should sail through to the last eight.
Lee So Hee/ Shin Seung Chan
In the women’s doubles Lee So Hee/ Shin Seung Chan beat Naoko Fukuman/ Kurumi Yonao without much trouble, taking two games 21-13, and will now face top Hong Kong pair Poon Lok Yan/ Tse Ying Suet. Last year’s winners, the ROK’s
Jung Kyung Eu/
Kim Ha Na showed they are a force to be reckoned with this year when they put on a display of irresistible attacking play, brushing aside local pair Kristi Das/ Anees Kowsar in just 12 minutes, and showing they are keen to take the title again this year..
Top local pair PONNAPPA/ Pradnya Gadre came back from a game down to beat a pair from England; they will play Japan’s tournament top seeds TakahashiI Ayaka/ Matsumoto Misaki in the next round, and can expect a tough challenge.
