Denmark Open: VICTOR’s Lee-Yoo Partnership Enters Milestone Week

2015-10-12

Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong, Team VICTOR’s star men’s doubles duo, will be moving into their third year of partnership, and finally coming in an Olympic year as it was first shaped to aim at, in this week’s Denmark Open Superseries Premier.

In 2013, the first-time pairing shed the doubts and made a winning finish. Last year, Lee and Yoo were in the finals again before losing to familiar foes in China’s Zhang Nan and Fu Haifeng. Seeded on top this year, the Koreans will seek to stretch their unbeaten record before the final in Odense, and hopefully to cap it off with a second Denmark Open triumph as well as their second victory in a row after delighting the home crowd by winning the VICTOR Korea Open last month.

Lee Yong Dae (L) and Yoo Yeon Seong just captured their first title together at the VICTOR Korea Open in September.

Lee Yong Dae, World Championships
Yoo (L) and Lee have had wins over their 2014 conquerers Fu/Zhang recently at the Japan Open and World Championships.

Yoo Yeon Seong, Korea
The Yoo Yeon Seong (L) and Lee Yong Dae partnership started in 2013 in hopes of becoming #TheRealDeal in Rio de Janeiro.

The recent VICTOR Korea Open and Thailand Open G.P. Gold women’s singles champion Sung Ji Hyun is on a march back up the BWF rankings, riding a 10-match winning streak since Seoul and moving 4 spots to reach a career high no.3. She will play her opening round against Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi, and will expect to remain at her very best in the quarterfinals facing world no.1 Saina Nehwal.

Sung Ji Hyun, Denmark Open
Sung Ji Hyun is now at the high ranking in her career at no.3 after victories in Seoul and Bangkok.
Indonesia’s World Champions Liliyana Natsir and Tontowi Ahmad, placed runner-ups in the previous three Opens, with the draw looking favorable, will have a good chance to emerge from the bottom half of the draw to potentially go against Olympic champs Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei for the first Superseries title in their season.

Ahmad and Natsir
Liliyana Natsir and Tontowi Ahmad were in the finals of the Denmark Open over the past three years and hope to bring it just one step further this time.

Sung Ji Hyun, Korea Open
