Lee/Yoo Defend Asian Crown on Eighth Match Point

#TeamVICTOR superstars, Korean men’s doubles pair and current world no.1s Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong defended their title in Wuhan at the Badminton Asia Championships. They edged China’s Liu/Li on the 8th consecutive match point, closing out the 58-minute, 21-14, 28-26 final thriller.
 
This marks Korea’s fifth men’s doubles victory in a row and seventh in nine years.

Yoo has achieved a three-peat at this event, winning with Lee in 2015 and with Shin Baek Choel in 2014. This is the fourth Asian crown for both. Yoo became an Asian Champion for the first time in 2010 with Cho Gun Woo. Lee’s previous two titles were with his former no.1 partners Ko Sung Hyun and Jung Jae Sung.
 
 
The Badminton Asia Championships 2016 is the final major tournament counted in the Rio Olympics qualification period. The new BWF rankings to be released on Thursday will be used to decide the final Olympic entry list for the badminton event.
