Lee Hyo Jung added an Asian Games badminton mixed doubles gold to add to her Beijing Olympic gold.

【VICTOR News】The 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games badminton finals were held on November 21. After beating a pair from China in the semi-final, Shin Baek Choel/Lee Hyo Jung defeated another formidable pair from China, Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei to take the gold.

Lee Hyo Jung won the badminton mixed doubles at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and now has the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games gold. South Korea’s success shows it is one of the superpowers of world mixed doubles badminton.

After beating a pair from China in the semi-final, Shin Baek Choel/Lee Hyo Jung,were pitted once again against their old rivals Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei also of China. After a decisive win in the semis Shin/Lee had the confidence to take the game to their opponents from the word go and in the first game, although the teams were evenly matched and each battled to the end, Lee won the game by winning points with two smashes, the South Koreans taking the first game 21-19.

After taking the lead, it seemed that Shin/Lee smelled victory and their play became more aggressive in the second game. After from a brief period when the two sides were 4-4 at the start of the game, Shin/Lee’s attacking play forced error after error from their opponents, building them a seven point lead that was soon extended to a 17-7 lead. By this stage Zhang/Zhao’s fate was sealed and Shin/Lee won 21-19,21-14, taking the mixed doubles gold.

All the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games badminton events have been completed. China took the men’s and women’s team gold; Lin Dan of China won the men’s singles, while Wang Shixian, also of China, won the women’s singles;the men’s doubles gold was taken by Indonesia’s Markis Kido／Hendra Setiawan; the women’s doubles crown was taken by Tian Qing/ Zhao Yunlei of China and the mixed doubles gold by Shin Baek Choel/Lee Hyo Jung.
