The winning South Korean pair Lee and Jung didn’t let down the home crowd
【VICTOR News】The finals of the “VICTOR 2011 BWF Super Series Korea Open” were held on January 30. In the eagerly-anticipated men’s pairs event South Korea’s top pair Lee Yong Dae and Jung Jae Sung went head-to-head with the current world No.1 pair, Denmark’s Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen, in the final.
Roared on by the home support, the South Korean pair defeated their opponents with ease, avenging their defeat at the hands of the Danes in the 2010 BWF Super Series Finals.
In the VICTOR 2010 BWF Super Series Finals held early in 2011, the South Korean pair came up against the Danes in the final and, not playing as well as they can on the day, lost in straight games, taking the runners-up spot.
The same pairs made it to the final of the Korea Open. Keen on avenging their defeat of last time, the South Korean pair attacked fiercely from the off, repeatedly smashing and attacking at the net to challenge the Danish pair’s left and right open bow defensive strategy.
The attacking strategy paid off and they won the first game 21-6. In the second game the attacking power of the South Koreans faded a little but, overly keen to win points, the Danes rushed their shots and lost many points due to errors. I
n the middle of the game, Lee/Jung won five points in succession, taking the score to 17-10, a winning streak that effectively sniffed out the hopes of the Danes.In the end the South Korean pair won the game 21-13, taking the US$90,000 plus first prize.
