【VICTOR news】Taiwan’s young female badminton prodigy,Tai Tzu Ying, took a few notable scalps at the French Open 2011, and, although she fell in the semis, her splendid performances have turned heads all across the badminton world.

In this tournamemt Tai first beat Bowen of Denmark, then Yip Pui Yi of Hong Kong and then China’s world’s No. 1 Wang Yi Han, reaching the semi-final stage. She only recently defeated India’s Saiba, who is ranked No. 4 in the world, in the second round of the Denmark Open. Prior to the French Open Tai also triumphed over the winner of the 2007 and 2009 World Badminton Championship, Zhu Lin and Lu Lan, and also beat Wang Xin, the current world No. 2, on two occasions.

Of the top three ranked players in the world, only Wang Shi Xian has yet to be beaten by Tai, who can be said to be the worst nightmare for China’s female singles player, showing the badminton world that there is a new force in women’s badminton from Chinese Taipei that is a serious threat to the monopoly enjoyed by China’s female badminton players.

Tai is now ranked 17th in the world, moving closer and closer to being one of the 16 seeded players in the women’s singles badminton event at the London Olympics and, if she can continue to perform to this high level, she has a good chance of upsetting China’s gold medal plans and winning Taiwan’s first badminton Olympic gold medal.
